Lincoln MP Karl McCartney managed to secure funding from The Football Association Group to replace a city team’s goalposts.
Birchwood Colts Junior Football Club’s goalposts, which are used by 10 teams, were destroyed by arsonists.
Karl McCartney, who plays football for the United Kingdom Parliament XI Football Club, stepped forward to help the team replace their lost posts.
He was asked by The FA Group to nominate a grassroots team in Lincoln to receive a donation.
He put forward the Birchwood Colts Junior FC, and managed to receive a £400 to replace the posts.
McCartney presented the cheque to team’s chairman, Andy Brown, in Lincoln this week, as well as meeting one of the teams just before their 8-0 win over East Coast Juniors from Skegness.
Karl McCartney said: “As a keen footballer both in the past and still today, and a football supporter myself, I was very upset to hear that arsonists had vandalised Birchwood Colt’s goalposts.
“However, I am delighted that, with the very kind help of the FA and my Parliamentary colleagues, we have been able to replace them.”
