Wreath festival in the limelight at Lincoln Christmas Market

Spot the wreath: Businesses, groups and schools in the Cathedral Quarter of Lincoln have played their part in an annual wreath festival.

Among undiscovered treats at the 2013 Lincoln Christmas Market, visitors to the Cathedral Quarter are invited to The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene, on Lincoln Bailgate to marvel at a wreath display like no other.

In an annual event showcasing businesses, groups and schools in the area, the Lincoln Cathedral Quarter Advent Wreath Festival exhibits over 60 themed entries.

This year, visitors to the festival can enjoy entries from the Lincoln City Centre Neighbourhood Police, the Cathedral Shop, St Mary’s Preparatory and Pre-Preparatory schools and various iconic business titles.

Parochial Church Council member Shirley Brook, who helped organise the festival, said: “The festival started around 10 years ago, with a display of around 40 Christmas trees.

“The festival was so popular that, after two years, we decided we would do wreaths instead. That way we could get far more businesses represented.

“The most we had was over 90 wreaths one year. This year there are 64 fantastic entries. Among the collections are businesses, groups and schools. It brings everyone together and people get to show off the spirit of their organisation.”

The team at the Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene are also hosting Christmas services for the first time this year throughout the day. Visit the church on Castle Square for details of the next service.
