North Hykeham sports centre opens new 3G sports pitch

New pitch: North Kesteven Sports Centre now has a new, state-of-the-art sports pitch.

The new 3G sports pitch at North Kesteven Sports Centre in North Hykeham has been completed.

The project at the sports centre is part of the District Council’s refurbishment of the centre, which was beginning to become outdated.

The pitch construction was carried out by Woodhead, who replaced the old sand-based pitch with the 3G carpet. The carpet is a blend of grass-like fibres attached to a special backing.

The new pitch opened with a two-day Football Festival, held on August 27. A second will be held on September 6.

The first took place between 6pm and 8.30pm, seeing teams from North Kesteven District Council, SCAPE, Leisure in the Community and Woodhead taking part in a project team tournament.

Money raised will was donated to local charity, the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

The second will take place from 9am till 12pm, when local football teams from across the North Kesteven district can play in a community football festival.

The event will be held like a family fun day for the whole community to enjoy.

Glenn Slater, Business Development Director from Woodhead, said: “The sports pitch will be a valuable resource for the development of local sports activities.

“The football festival is an opportunity to bring together the community to support local youth teams and also to raise money for such a worthwhile cause, thanks to the project team tournament.

“It will be great to see the new pitch being put through its paces,” he added.
