Update on October 22: Police say a man was seriously injured in the collision. The car was badly damaged by fire but it is believed to be a BMW.
Officers are trying to contact the relatives of the injured man and work continues to clear the road.
It is expected that the A46 between Skellingthorpe and Doddington Road roundabouts will re-open in the early hours of Thursday.
The A46 Lincoln bypass has been closed after a serious collision between a car and a lorry, which caused the car to catch fire.
The incident happened just before 7pm on Wednesday, October 22.
The A46 is currently closed between Skellingthorpe and Doddington Road roundabouts and is likely to remain closed until at least the early hours of Thursday, police said.
Motorists are advised to find alternative routes as the diversions are likely to be in place for some time.
Anyone who was in the area and saw the collision is asked to leave a message on the collision hotline on 01522 558855 and a Roads Policing Officer will contact them as soon as possible.
Those calling with information should quote incident number 400 of October 22.
