Lincoln traffic delays possible with hundreds expected at traveller funeral

Large funeral: People in the uphill area of Lincoln may face travel disruption on Wednesday due to a large funeral.

People travelling in the uphill area of Lincoln may face disruption on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 22 due to a traveller’s funeral, which is expected to be attended by hundreds.

While no road closures have been planned ahead of the event, the funeral may affect parking and travel in the Newport area.

The funeral, for a Leicester man who was born in Lincoln, will begin at around 1pm at the St Nicholas Church on Newport followed by a burial at the nearby cemetery at 2pm.

It is understood that the number of people attending the funeral could be up to 600.

Lincolnshire Police have confirmed that the event will be monitored due to its scale.
