With the holidays having already started for some children, The Lincolnite has compiled a list of ten of the best events for kids and adults alike to enjoy over the rest of the summer.
Lincoln by the Sea

Where: Lincoln City Square
When: July 20 to August 29, 10am – 4pm
Price: Free
Lincoln by the Sea will return to the city through the summer holidays, with plenty of sand and entertainment.
Children will be able to enjoy the beach and fairground rides in the city centre, while parents can relax in the complimentary deckchairs.
The beach is funded and organised by Lincoln Business Improvement Group (BIG).
Lincoln Barons’ Charter Trail

When: June 13 to September 13
Price: Free
The 25 trailblazing Barons, designed for the 800th anniversary celebrations of Magna Carta, will remain in the city centre through the summer.
Each Baron has been individually painted and given their own identity by a variety of artists who have worked closely with sponsors on the designs.
The trail will stay in place until September 13, before the sculptures are auctioned to raise funds for the national foodbank charity The Trussell Trust.

Acclaimed artists such as Billy Bragg, Carol Ann Duffy and Shappi Khorsandi will perform in Lincoln at a ten day festival to round off the Magna Carta 800th anniversary summer celebrations in the city.
Festival 800, organised by cultural solutions UK on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council, and supported by the National Lottery through Arts England, will demonstrate how Magna Carta’s focus on liberty, justice and freedom of speech have shaped today’s society.
Steampunk Festival

Europe’s largest Steampunk festival returns to Lincoln Castle at the end of August.
Inspired by Victorian and Edwardian adventures and science-fiction, participants from across the country descend on the castle for three days of eccentric activities, extraordinary performances, and spectacular fashion.
Continental Market
Lincoln’s Continental Market from July 30 to August 2
Where: Lincoln Cornhill
When: July 30 to August 2, 9am – 5.30pm
Price: Free
Produce from around Europe will be on offer on the streets of Lincoln during a vibrant Continental Market.
Customers will be able to sample flavours from across the continent and take ingredients to try at home.
The Lincolnshire Motorshow
The Lincolnshire Motorshow on the Brayford Waterfront in August
Where: Brayford Waterfront
When: August 16, 10am – 5pm
Price: Free
Hundreds of cars, vans, campers, trucks and vintage tractors will be on display in addition to live music from local bands.
Specialist service centres will also be in attendance with a range of vehicles each and to offer advice for your own car.

Punch and Judy Festival

When: July 31 to August 1, 10am – 4.30pm
Price: Free
Experience traditional Punch and Judy shows on High Bridge, the beach on City Square and in the Lincoln Castle grounds.
The Punch and Judy performance consists of a sequence of short scenes, each depicting an interaction between the two characters.
The shows are aimed at children of all ages as well as adults, so look out for giant Mr Punch, Judy and Baby around town!
The Battle of Lincoln

Where: Lincoln Castle
August 8 to August 9, 10am – 4.30pm
The violent past of Lincoln Castle and the dramatic story of the 1141 Battle of Lincoln is brought to life on the weekend of August 8 and 9.
Using different parts of the castle, the story of King Stephen’s capture is retold with a cast of Medieval soldiers and nobles performing realistic combat scenes and terrifying stunts.
There will be an extra direct London-Lincoln service from Virgin Trains East Coast on Saturday, August 8 – leaving Kings Cross at 9:10am – to help travel to the Battle of Lincoln even easier.
Butterfly Bonanza

Children are being encouraged to join the Hartsholme Country Park Rangers and learn how to survey butterflies.
