Lincoln swimming pool re-opens following leak

Back open: The swimming pool at Yarborough Leisure Centre has now re-opened after a leak, due to heavy rain causing its closure.

The swimming pool at Yarborough Leisure Centre has now re-opened after a leak, due to heavy rain, caused its closure.

Intensive swim lessons and normal swim lesson programme will resume today, as well as casual swimming from this evening.

The diving bay will remain closed for the time being, which means that any deep water lane swimming sessions have temporarily been removed from the timetable.

Yarborough Leisure Centre has recently undergone a £1.2 million revamp with work to the roof completing a host of improvements.

The pool and exercise studios were closed temporarily for the first time after heavy rain caused leaks on the first floor on August 14.

A second heavy downpour on the morning on August 24 forced the centre to close for a second time this month.

Roger Michie, Deputy Manager for Yarborough Leisure Centre, said: “Our normal swim lessons and casual swimming programme has now returned to normal, but please be aware that for now Deep Water Lane Swimming has had to be removed from the programme due to the diving bay closure.

“If anybody has any questions about a session taking place please give us a call and we’ll be happy to advise you.”

Karen Bevan, Leisure Services Team Leader for City of Lincoln Council, said: “We’re really pleased that we’ve been given the go-ahead to re-open the pool and are working hard to get the diving area open again as soon as possible.

“The closure was necessary for health and safety reasons and we’re grateful to the centre’s users for their patience and understanding while the works have taken place.”
