Lincoln’s ‘hottest’ food festival returns to St Marks this weekend

Hot stuff: People in Lincoln with a taste for spice are being invited to take the heat this weekend with the return of the Awesome Lincoln Chilli Festival.

People in Lincoln with a taste for spice are being challenged to stand the heat this weekend with the return of the Awesome Lincoln Chilli Festival.

The festival, organised by Lincoln BIG, takes place in St Mark’s Square on Saturday (September 5), from 10.30am to 5.30pm.

The event will feature a range of stalls, giving shoppers and visitors the chance to try and buy everything from mild to extremely hot chilli products – following an inaugural event a year ago.

A spokesman for Chilli Fest UK, which has been working with Lincoln BIG, said: “Producers from all over the UK will be exhibiting some of the hottest products in the UK, and maybe the world. They will be giving people a day of pure chilli mayhem.

“They can expect mild to extreme chilli sauces, chilli pickles, Naga masala cooking sauces, chilli jams, chilli chocolates, chilli dips, chilli pizza toppings and a cooking demonstration by Aunty Jee, using her sauces and more.

“They can experience a day of pleasuring pain and join the chilli revolution.”

For those wanting to “cool off”, local performer Strummin’ Steve Jackson has organised an afternoon of relaxed music in The Garden at St Mark’s, where people can enjoy listening to toe-tapping sounds from instrumentalists and singers, including four-piece band The Delta Dogs and guitarist Zeph Brown.

The artists will be performing between 11am and 4.45pm.
