Running enthusiasts and those looking for a new fundraising challenge will be able to take part in Lincoln’s new Half Marathon event.
The run has been launched by local organisers OSB Events and will take place on October 2, 2016.
The race aims to attract 4,000 runners and will start and finish at the Lincolnshire Showground, with the route travelling through the city and past iconic attractions.
Participants will then circle the Brayford Waterfront before completing the loop. The full route and road closures are expected to be announced in May.
Race Director Iain Hamilton said: “We’re excited to bring a half marathon race to our home town of Lincoln.
“Having organised events in and around the Midlands since 1991, it’s great that we’re able to launch an event here. Our aim is to contribute to the growing local economy by bringing people into the city and raising the profile of the city.
“They are aiming to fund a home in Lincoln where families can stay whilst their children receive cancer treatment. We aim to support them in their mission to improve facilities for families whose children are affected by cancer.”
Local business owner, Stuart Maclaren of Your Print Partner, said: “I can’t wait for this event to come to Lincoln. For small businesses, the increased number of people coming into the city is great news. Other cities have half marathon events and it feels like this is very positive news for Lincoln.”
OSB Events is working closely with City of Lincoln Council to launch the event.
Angela Andrews, Chief Executive of the council said: “This event will be fantastic for Lincoln, and will help to promote good health as well as boost the local economy.
“I’m sure that it will attract people from far and wide, which will give many more people the chance to come and experience our wonderful city.”
