A 15-year-old girl who admitted charges of assault and wounding has been released from custody and given a last chance to turn her life around by a crown court judge.

Lincoln Crown Court heard the teenager was just 14-years-old when she committed the offences in October 2015.

The girl, who can not be named because of her age, also pleaded guilty to a third charge of possessing a bladed article.

She was made the subject of a two-year youth rehabilitation order which prevents her from having any contact with her two victims or going within 100 metres of two streets in Gainsborough.

She was also placed under supervision for two years and must live where directed to by the authorities.

Rebecca Penfold, mitigating, said the girl had co-operated fully with the youth offending team since she had been remanded in to custody.

Before passing sentence, Judge Simon Hirst asked the youngster if she was prepared to co-operate with the package designed to help her. She replied: “Yes”.

Judge Hirst told the girl he was willing to give her chance as she had spent the equivalent of an 11 month sentence in custody and had indicated she wanted help.

Judge Hirst told her: “You cannot say you have not been given a chance.

“If you do not take it you will keep coming back in front of people like me and the sentences will get longer and longer. I won’t be sympathetic towards you.

“I really hope it works out for you. It is your chance.”

The girl was released from custody at the end of the court hearing.
