Selfless Lincoln newlyweds raised £835 for a Lincolnshire charity by asking their guests for donations instead of wedding gifts.

Adele and Mick Gibbons were overwhelmed by the generosity of their family and friends as they joined them for their wedding reception on Saturday, May 28 at Lincoln Hospital Social Club.

The money was raised at the wedding reception, which had a table dedicated to St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, a bucking bronco and the groomsmen all wore the charity’s pin badges instead of flowers.

Adele said: “Mick and I have been together for 14 years so we have everything we need and thought it would be a nice gesture to give something back to a local charity that does so much for our community.

“We asked for donations, but quite a few also gave us presents. Never in our wildest dreams did we think that we would raise such an amazing amount, we are stunned by the sheer generosity.”

Adele and Mick chose to support St Barnabas after two of their family members were cared for by the charity.

Adele added: “St Barnabas is a charity that is close to both of our hearts because we have witnessed first-hand the incredible care they deliver.

“Mick’s mum was cared for at the hospice and the nurses and volunteers always treated her with such compassion.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to our guests for helping us to celebrate our special day and for helping to raise such an incredible amount of money.”
