Five stores in Grimsby have joined the ‘Breastfeeding Welcome’ scheme run by the infant feeding team at North East Lincolnshire Council.

The five stores which have joined the scheme include: New Look, Waterstones, T.K.Maxx and Topshop at Freshney Place Shopping Centre in Grimsby and My New Shoes in Abbeygate.

‘Breastfeeding Welcome’ is an award scheme developed to make it easier for mums, partners and families to recognise places where they can feel relaxed, supported by staff and comfortable to breastfeed their baby/babies when they are out and about in North East Lincolnshire.

Freshney Place Shopping Centre welcome mums who need to feed their babies whilst in the centre.

They have also recently opened new facilities which offer a more peaceful environment if a mum chooses to breastfeed there.

Councillor Ros James, portfolio holder for children and young people at North East Lincolnshire Council said: “There is a lot of evidence to demonstrate that there are many health benefits of breastfeeding both to mothers and their babies, it is important they are supported to continue.

“We know that some mothers feel anxious about breastfeeding whilst out and about in our local communities.

“The infant feeding team do some great work to encourage businesses to show their support.”
