A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a teenager riding a scooter was killed in a crash on the A1.

As previously reported, the fatal crash saw a car collide with the teenage biker from Leicestershire, who was riding on the northbound carriageway of the A1 at Barrowby, near Grantham at around 10pm on Tuesday, September 13.

The rider was knocked from his scooter and the vehicle involved failed to stop at the scene.

Police arrested a man this morning, and he remains in police custody.

Lincolnshire Police have said that they are unable to release further details at this stage of the investigation.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We are appealing for anyone who was on the A1 between the A607 junction and the junction with the A52 between 10.25pm and 10.35pm to contact the collision investigators.

“We would specifically like to speak to anyone who was recording with a dashboard camera while they travelled along that stretch of the A1.

“It may be they did not witness the collision but they may have recorded vehicles that will help with our investigation.”

Head of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Lincolnshire Police, Inspector Simon Heads, added: “If anyone saw the collision last night on the A1 or has any information that will help us investigate what has happened which has led to the very sad death of a 17-year-old, then please give me a call.”

A spokesperson for EMAS said: “Several clinicians were sent to the scene and were supported by a responder from LIVES and a doctor from EMICS, as well as the police. Sadly the patient did not survive.”
