A 52-year-old man has been released on police bail in connection with a fatal hit and run on the A1 this week.

As previously reported, a car collided with a 17-year-old Leicestershire man riding a scooter on the northbound carriageway of the A1 at Barrowby, near Grantham.

The rider was knocked from his scooter and the vehicle involved failed to stop at the scene of the crash at around 10pm on Tuesday, September 13.

Officers arrested a man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving on Wednesday, September 14.

Now, Lincolnshire Police have confirmed that the vehicles involved were a Mercedes Benz car, an orange moped and a DAF articulated lorry.

Head of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Lincolnshire Police, Inspector Simon Heads, added: “If anyone saw the collision last night on the A1 or has any information that will help us investigate what has happened which has led to the very sad death of a 17-year-old, then please give me a call.”

A spokesperson for EMAS said: “Several clinicians were sent to the scene and were supported by a responder from LIVES and a doctor from East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme, as well as the police. Sadly the patient did not survive.”
