Plans for a new Lincoln gym, which will test members’ DNA to provide the best exercise and nutritional plan have been submitted to city planners.

The proposed site at 3 Brayford Wharf North would convert storage and staff room facilities currently used by the Zizzi restaurant into a ‘boutique-style fitness centre offering specialist fitness services and studio gym classes’.

The new gym by Zen Leisure Ltd, called The Fitness Space, would have a total of 336 sqm internal floor space and would create up to nine new jobs for the area.

The national gym chain provides personal online programmes that can be accessed through an app on members’ smartphones and are reviewed on a monthly basis.

It also offers DNA testing to help ‘cut out the guess work in understanding what exercise programme and nutritional plan their body will respond to best.’

The company currently have nine other centres around the UK and has plans for an additional three to open, including Lincoln.

In other gyms, prices for membership range from £41 a month plus £50 joining fee for students to £66 a month plus a £100 joining fee for a deluxe single membership or £719.88 cash payment upfront. Prices may vary for the Lincoln site.

The planning application states that it would be open from 6.30am – 9 pm Monday to Friday and 8am – 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The City of Lincoln Council’s planning committee will consider the proposals at a later date.
