Anti-social Boston residents face being fined up to £100 if they are caught not picking up their dog’s mess.

Boston Borough councillors will vote on proposals to double dog fouling fines from £50 to £100 at a meeting on Wednesday, October 12.

Under these guidelines, owners will be fined the higher amount if they fail to show that they are carrying dog poo bags or fail to demonstrate their intention to clean up the mess.

This all forms part of the council’s plans to bring in Public Space Protection Orders.

A person given a fixed penalty notice for this offence has 14 days to pay.

If payment is not received within the 14 days the authority will take legal action against them.

The maximum fine if found guilty in court is currently £1,000.

George Bernard, head of environmental operations at the council, said: “The controls we are proposing to put in place will not have an adverse effect on the dogs themselves and targets only those owners who do not behave responsibly.”
