Boston woman to be jailed after spate of burglaries to pay for son’s drug addiction

A 57-year-old woman who burgled three houses in the Boston area has been warned to expect jail.

Jacqueline Pinkney admitted carrying out a string of offences in June and July this year when she appeared at Lincoln Crown Court on Friday, October 28.

The court was told Pinkney stole items including a laptop computer from a cottage in Red Cap Lane, Boston, on June 14.

Pinkney also pleaded guilty to stealing jewellery and passports from a house in Fishtoft Road, Fishtoft, on July 6.

The final burglary took place in Tattershall Road, Boston, on July 27 when Pinkney admitted taking property including a jewellery box and a watch.

She also pleaded guilty to four charges of handling stolen goods between July 1 and 22, this year.

The stolen property included football programmes and memorabilia, two laptop computers, a wallet, jewellery and an iPod.

Mark Watson, mitigating, admitted Pinkney had a bad criminal record but said things had improved in more recent times.

The court heard Pinkney had only two convictions for burglary since 1999 and had more recently committed driving and shoplifting offences.

Watson added: “It had calmed down.”

What had changed recently was that Pinkney had felt “obliged and pressured” to pay for her son’s drug addiction, Watson said.

Judge John Pini QC adjourned sentence for two weeks but warned Pinkney to expect custody.

The judge told her: “There has to be an immediate custodial sentence, there is no alternative, it is simply how long it should be.”

Pinkney, of Irby Street, Boston, was remanded in custody until she is sentenced on November 14.
