A musician from Lincoln has been jailed for nine years for raping two women as they slept.

Dwane Smith, 28, attacked his victims in a bedroom above a pub in Newark, which he used when he performed at the venue with his band.

The two incidents were reported independently and happened a year apart, in April 2015 and April this year.

The court was told Smith, of Tower Crescent, Lincoln, invited the women back to his room for drinks after hours and they slept in his bed, before being woken by him raping them.

Smith was jailed for five years on one count and four years consecutively on the second, when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, November 4.

He has also been ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register and made the subject of a restraining order banning him from contacting the victims.

Temporary Detective Inspector Nikki Smith said: “The two incidents were reported a year apart by women who were targeted by Smith in a very similar way.

“Smith displayed consistent predatory behaviour against these victims at a time when they were vulnerable through alcohol.

“While his sentence won’t undo the harm done to these women by Smith, hopefully it will provide some small comfort that he has been locked up for a significant time.”
