A memorial garden for those who have lost their lives on Lincolnshire’s roads is set to be built in Boston.

The Lincolnshire Road Victims Memorial aims to provide a peaceful area with a suitable memorial within Westgate Woods for quiet reflection by the mums, dads, grandparents, relatives, friends and colleagues who have someone missing from their lives.

The site will sit within an avenue of lime trees and the ground between will be lightly landscaped and will feature natural wildflowers and a limited number of plantings.

Down the centre of the site will be a path leading to a simple ground-level plaque and nearby will be a simple shelter where people can sit when the weather is cold or wet.

It is expected that the memorial garden will cost around £40,000 and work is expected to be finished mid-2018.

John Rose, administrator at Churches Together in All Lincolnshire, which is working with the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership on the project, said: “We are most grateful to the Boston Woods Trust for the significant help they have given us.

“The site has good access, but is away from the noise of major roads.

“The site is quiet and peaceful and, by chance has views looking out to the Boston Stump church.

“We do very much hope there will be the facility for those families who want it to have a memorial nameplate attached to the benches.”

Raising funds

A charity event to raise money for the memorial will be held on Saturday, November 26 from 10am – 3pm at Fydell House, Boston.

The Christmas Bazaar charity event will have a host of stalls, including homemade crafts, refreshments and a raffle.

There will also be a chance to meet Santa before a carol service at 2.30pm.
