Grimsby-born dancer Joanne Clifton and her celebrity partner Ore Oduba have won this year’s BBC Strictly Come Dancing contest.

Joanne, who has been a part of the Strictly Come Dancing team of professional dancers since 2014, won the competition with sports presenter in a thrilling final on December 17.

The pair beat finalists Danny Mac and Louise Redknapp to win 14th series of the show.

The Grimsby dancer also beat her older brother, Kevin Clifton, who was the dancing partner of Louise Redknapp.

The duo lifted the prestigious Strictly Come Dancing glitterball trophy after impressing the judges with their trio of dances during Saturday night’s live show, which saw over 13 million people watching.

Both viewers and judges described the winning performance as “spellbinding” and a “deserved victory”.

The final also marked the last live show of head judge Len Goodman, who has stepped down after 12 years on the show.

Joanne Clifton, also known as Jo or JoJo, is a British professional dancer, presenter, actress and singer born in Waltham, Grimsby.

She won the World Ballroom Showdance Championship in 2013 and also won the European Professional Ballroom Championship and World Dancesport Games before starting her Strictly career in 2014.
