A section of Skellingthorpe Road near to the level crossing will be closed for three consecutive weekends in January to allow for an access road to be constructed for a new housing estate.

The closure will be in place near to the intersection with Tritton Road on January 14-15, 21-22 and 27-28.

A diversion will be in place rerouting traffic via Carholme Road and the A46 Lincoln Bypass.

Access for pedestrians will be maintained at all times.

The works will take place on the section of Skellingthorpe Road adjacent to the railway line, in close proximity to the level crossing.

The level crossing itself will not be operational during periods in which the road is closed.

The roadspace has been secured with Lincolnshire County Council and the diversion route agreed with Highways England.

The works will provide access from Skellingthorpe Road to a new housing development currently under construction, which will offer 57 affordable homes available through New Linx Housing Trust.

These works will involve the formation of a bellmouth entrance to the development, construction of footpaths and associated white lining.

Westleigh Partnerships Ltd will be carrying out the works. These works form part of Westleigh’s S38 agreement with Lincolnshire County Council.

A spokesperson for Westleigh said: “We understand there may be some disruption caused by these necessary works but we will strive to keep it to a minimum, and we appreciate the patience and support of local residents in making these improvements.”
