Busy Spalding road to be closed for another month after sewer main collapses

Road closures are expected to last into February to repair a collapsed sewer on a road in Spalding.

Anglian Water has said emergency repairs to a collapsed sewer main on Winsover Road are expected to take another month.

The issue was first reported on December 14 when a sink hole appeared on the busy road.

Anglian Water originally suggested the works would go on until January 9, however, a new completion date is set for early February and will take place between 7.30am and 6pm.

A signed diversion route has been installed and will maintained throughout the remainder of the works.

A spokesperson for Anglian Water said: “Just before Christmas our teams were called to a collapsed sewer main on Winsover Road in Spalding.

“Unfortunately this meant we’ve had to close the road and put diversions in place while our teams are working. We have been working in the area since then.

“Unfortunately, this repair is going to take some time, so it’s likely the road will remain closed until early February.

“To complete the repair we’re going to need to hand dig about 6m underneath the sewer pipe so we can avoid making any damage to the other utility pipes, such as gas and water.

“Our priority is to ensure we’re carrying out the work safely not only for our own staff, but members of the public too.

“We are sorry for any disruption local residents and road users have experienced since the work began and thank them for their patience while we’re making the repairs.”
