Man dies after Grimsby arson attack and rescue, CCTV released

Police are looking to speak with the person captured on CCTV in relation to an arson attack in Grimsby on January 13.

A pensioner who was rescued by quick-thinking neighbours after an arson attack at his home has sadly died following the ordeal.

A post mortem examination has revealed that the 67-year-old man’s death was not linked to the fire, however investigations are continuing into the attack.

CCTV footage has been released as part of ongoing investigations by Humberside Police into the fire at the home on Stanage Walk, Grimsby, on Friday, January 13.

Officers were called to the area by the fire service at around 10.55pm, after a wheelie bin was set alight and pushed against the front door of a ground floor flat.

The 67-year-old man living at the property was rescued by his neighbours and taken to Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital for treatment.

Sadly, he died five days later of unrelated causes.

Detective Chief Inspector Stewart Miller said: “We are very keen to identify the person on the video to establish if they were involved in the incident or saw anything that could assist us with our enquiries.”

A 13-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and released on bail to a date next month, pending further enquiries.
