Gamers are set to battle against each other as a special Nintendo Gaming Event kickstarts the Lincoln Japan Festival.

Users will be able to choose from Mario, Luigi and many more Nintendo characters in an attempt to be crowned the champion at the Lincoln Drill Hall on Saturday, February 11.

The event kicks off at 10am and tournament entires are £3 each and can be purchased on the Japan festival’s website for gamers to compete against each other on Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.

After last year’s popularity, organisers have urged wannabe participants to be quick as only 32 people can take part in each tournament.

A Retro-Zone and other free to play games will commence throughout the day on a variety of consoles such as the NES, Nintendo 64 and Gamecube.

Darren Bolton, the festival organiser said: “After the great success of our first Nintendo gaming event at the festival in 2015; we’ve returned with more tournaments, more prizes and more consoles for people to play.”

The Lincoln Japan Festival started in 2015 and runs from February 11 until February 18 with film nights, martial arts workshops and live music on the agenda throughout the week.

The schedule also includes film, theatre, live music, sushi rolling, Japanese craft workshops and lots more.
