A 52-year-old man has sadly died following a six-vehicle crash on the A1 this morning.

The man was the driver of one the vehicles involved in the crash at about 7.55am on the A1 near Newark.

He was trapped in his car while emergency services worked for a while to rescue him.

Another man – the driver of one of the lorries – was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham by air ambulance for treatment for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

A woman was taken to hospital by ambulance and three other men were treated for their injuries at the scene.

Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life altering.

The road remains closed in both directions with diversions in place as police Forensic Collision Investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the vehicles involved are recovered.

Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not already spoken to officers is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 137 of March 9.
