A paedophile who abused young girls in the 1960s and 1970s has had his sentence almost doubled by some of the country’s leading judges.

Walter Field, 81, and of Foxe End, Mablethorpe, was jailed for five-and-a-half-years in December 2016 after admitting 12 counts of indecent assault.

The girls Field abused were as young as six.

Field was arrested by police in June 2015, more than 40 years after his offences, when one of his victims bravely came forward.

Judges at the Court of Appeal in London ruled that Field’s original sentence at Isleworth Crown Court was far too lenient.

His jail sentence has now been substantially increased to 10 years and eight months.
