A man has been landed a hefty fine for the second time in less than a year for failing to clean up after his dog.

Mark Brown of Newborn Avenue, Scunthorpe was originally issued with an Abatement Notice on January 7, 2016 after letting dog faeces pile up in his garden.

After he still failed to pick up after his dog, Brown appeared in Scunthorpe Magistrates Court on June 22, 2016 where he pleaded guilty to breaching his Abatement Notice. He was fined £560.97.

Dog poo was found piled up in the garden

On a routine inspection in January 2017, Environmental Health Officers from North Lincolnshire Council noticed a further accumulation of dog poo in Brown’s garden.

Letters were sent to him reminding him of his responsibility to pick up after his dog and keep his garden clear.

However, on further visits to the property, officers found little improvement in the garden.

Mark Brown attended Grimsby Magistrates Court on April 28 and pleaded guilty to breaching his Abatement Notice again.

He was ordered to pay a fine of £200 for each of his three offences, £200 costs and a further £132 investigations costs; a total of £932.

Councillor Richard Hannigan, Deputy Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The council takes the problem of dog fouling very seriously and when faeces are allowed to pile up and become a statutory nuisance, we have to take action.

“The message is clear; be a responsible dog owner and pick up after your pet.”
