A town centre council car park used by the public on evenings and weekends is to close to allow site preparation for Grantham’s new multiplex cinema.

The initial work on St Catherine’s Road car park will commence on Friday, June 16 and is for archaeological exploration.

This is expected to take two to three weeks.

Site owner South Kesteven District Council hopes to then reopen the car park, to the rear of the Tollemache Inn, to the public pending the next major site work.

Motorists are being encouraged to use the nearby Welham Street multi-storey car park which is visible from the St Catherine’s Road car park.

Plans for the new cinema include five screens, restaurants and office space – all within a short walk of St Peter’s Hill.
