Police investigating allegations that a man had been masturbating in public outside a Lincoln shopping centre have concluded that no offences have been committed.

As reported previously, a video that was posted on social media claiming to show the man committing an indecent act on Lincoln High Street went viral, sparking a police appeal and investigation.

A local resident had posted the video on Facebook claiming the man was “doing his business” and that he had been reported to police.

The post was viewed more than 120,000 times.

Police shared an image of the man in order to locate him. A man in his 40s was interviewed by officers on the afternoon of Monday, July 17.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday, July 18 that no offence had been committed.

They said: “A full investigation has been carried out into a report of an indecent act in Lincoln city centre.

“As a result, it has been concluded that the man believed to have been involved was not committing a sexual act.

“After carrying out interviews yesterday investigating officers found that no offences have been committed, therefore no further action will be taken.

“We are grateful to the public and local media for their help in circulating the appeal in relation to this matter and their assistance in getting the incident dealt with quickly.”
