Schools in North Lincolnshire to receive £13.5m funding boost

A number of schools across North Lincolnshire are to benefit from a £13.5 million investment in refurbishment and maintenance projects.

North Lincolnshire Council has confirmed that roof replacements, improving wellbeing in schools and providing more help for children with special educational needs will be some of the key areas where the money will be targeted.

Further investment will be provided to meet demands of 30 hours of free childcare for working parents of three to four year olds.

Examples of major refurbishments expected to be completed by 2020 include:

• Frodingham Infants School, Scunthorpe – £576,939 for mechanical, electrical and roof maintenance
• Scunthorpe CE Primary School – £365,822 for mechanical and electrical maintenance
• Enderby Road Infants School, Scunthorpe – £70,000 will be spent on mechanical maintenance
• Frederick Gough School, Scunthorpe – £1,681,069 will be spent on electrical and mechanical maintenance
• Sir John Nelthorpe, Brigg – £483,072 on roof improvements
• John Harrison Primary School, Barton-upon-Humber – £121,639 on electrical maintenance
• Winterton Children’s Centre – £36,100 for new provision

Cabinet member for children, families and learning, Councillor David Rose, said: “This is a major investment that will ensure we provide the best possible environment for our children and young people to learn.

“We are committed to providing better outcomes for children; by improving the learning environment and creating more school places, we are giving children every chance to do well in school and beyond.”

North Lincolnshire Council leader Rob Waltham added: “This latest investment will improve our schools further, create more school places and provide free childcare under the government’s free child care initiative to help parents go back to work.

“All this is on top of the money we have already invested and are now reaping the benefits, having rebuilt many schools including the Vale of Ancholme in Brigg and Outwood Grange Brumby and Outwood Grange Foxhills.

“In total, our schools have seen over £100m invested in the last eight years.

“We continue to be well supported by the government to continue improving our local schools.”
