Northern Rail to introduce new Sunday train service from Lincoln to Sheffield

The new service will begin later this month.

Northern Rail will introduce a new Sunday train which will run every hour between Lincoln and Sheffield.

From Sunday, December 10 the train will run every hour, serving Saxilby, Gainsborough, Retford and Worksop.

This is a first in the history of railways in the Lincolnshire area.

Northern Rail also plan to run hourly semi-fast trains direct between Lincoln and Leeds calling at Meadowhall from next May.

Barry Coward chair of the North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Community Rail Partnership welcomes the new service.

He said: “I’m sure these trains will be very popular as Sunday is the busiest shopping day of the week and there is also a steady increase in demand for leisure travel.

“Sadly the new trains do not connect at Sheffield with trains to and from Meadowhall, but buses do run every 10 minutes from Sheffield Interchange opposite the railway station.”
