Elderly man killed in Sleaford house fire officially named

An inquest will open into his death.

A man killed in a house fire in Sleaford just before Christmas has been officially named.

Laurence Gunningham died when a fire broke out at a property on Claremont Park at 7.20am on Wednesday, December 20.

Firefighters went into the house to rescue the 88-year-old man, but he was confirmed dead by Lincolnshire Police later on the same day.

A woman in her 80s managed to escape and was taken to hospital with injuries not as serious.

Investigations into the fire took place throughout the day, with police guarding the scene.

Lincolnshire Police said at the time that the fire was not being treated as suspicious.

An inquest will open at Lincoln Coroner’s Court on Thursday, February 1.
