Heckington Windmill fundraising for tribute to Pete Lett who died in tragic accident

A tribute that will help all in the area.

The Heckington Windmill Trust is aiming to raise £600 for a defibrillator in memory of much-loved engineering volunteer Pete Lett.

As previously reported the 53-year-old suffered a fatal accident in the engine shed next to the windmill on Hale Road in Heckington, where his clothing became caught in the machinery on February 25.

Anyone wishing to make a donation for the defibrillator, which would be put at the mill site south of the railway , can visit the trust’s MyDonate account.

The trust said in a statement on their website: “In memory of Pete Lett who was tragically killed recently, The Windmill Trust are going to install a defibrillator at the mill which will be accessible for public use.

“Whilst having a Defibrillator on site would not have saved Pete, we think having one placed south of the level crossing would be good for the those living around the mill.”

The group at the mill said previously: “Pete will be missed enormously for his enthusiasm and contributions can also be left with staff at the windmill during opening hours on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday between 11am or 4pm.”

A book of condolences is also available in the Piggeries for people to share their thoughts and memories of Pete.

An array of positive comments were put on social media in response to the Windmill’s Facebook post announcing the tragic news.

Kate Davies said: “Such awful news, Pete was always so kind, energetic and a pleasure to be around, always made everyone smile. Will be greatly missed, condolences to Pete’s family too.”

Monika Daisy Peck added: “Condolences to Anne and the girls. I knew them through Washingborough Methodist church. Lovely family.”
