Inquest opens into tragic death of Amelia Wood, hit by Land Rover wheel

Inquest opened.

Amelia Wood, 11 sadly died after she was struck by a car wheel.

An inquest will examine the death of 11-year-old Amelia Wood, who was killed when she was hit by the wheel of a passing Land Rover on her way to school.

As previously reported, Amelia was struck by the loose wheel of a white Land Rover Discovery at around 8am on Tuesday, March 6 in Manby Middlegate.

She had been walking to catch the bus to Louth Academy.

Amelia died at Queen’s Medical Centre the following day after suffering severe head injuries.

A forensic examination has now begun on the vehicle, understood to have been customised.

An inquest was opened at the Lincoln Coroner’s Office on Thursday, March 22.

Tributes poured in for Amelia, who also made local headlines for her battle with leukaemia and fund-raising for the Children’s Hospital Charity and Sheffield Children’s Unit when she was just five years old.

Teachers and fellow pupils at Louth Academy described her as a “well-loved student and an active member of the community.”

A charity set up in her name and raising money for the Nottingham Paediatric Critical Care Unit and the Nottingham University Hospitals Charity has raised over £1,500 up to the time of publishing.
