Lucky former hare coursing dogs land new homes

A happy ending.
Lincolnshire Police say that this is the first time that one of the county’s courts have given them permission to find the dogs new homes.

Two hare coursing dogs have found new loving homes after they were seized by Lincolnshire Police.

The dogs, named Lucky and Spencer, are the first dogs to be re-homed after being found at a hare coursing event near Spilsby, East Lindsey, last month.

A further five dogs are due to follow in their “paw-steps” as the police have already got permission to find them new homes too.

Lincolnshire Police say that this is the first time that one of the county’s courts have given them permission to find the dogs new homes – rather than having the dogs return to their owners.

‘Lucky’ is one of the two former hare coursing dogs that has found a new home.

Chief Inspector, Jim Tyner, said the police will continue to make “every effort” to tackle hare coursing and get the dogs into the caring homes they deserve.

He said: “We are delighted that the dogs are going to be looked after and this is a real breakthrough for us.

“We’ve confiscated dogs temporarily for a long time but we are now making every effort to get the dogs taken away from hare coursers permanently.

Spencer was seized by police at a hare coursing event near Spilsby, East Lindsey.

“My officers have all witnessed a dog being left behind by coursers after it has been badly injured in this cruel activity or because it can no longer compete and make them money.”

In February there were 113 incidents of hare coursing in Lincolnshire, which is less than half when compared to the previous year.
