Temporary building will be demolished for two-storey classroom block in Grantham

Councillors have given the green light for the demolition of a temporary classroom in Grantham to make way for a larger, two-storey facility.

Members of South Kesteven District Council’s Development Management Committee approved the proposals submitted by The National Church of England Junior School at a meeting in Grantham on Tuesday, March 6.

A total of eight councillors voted in favour of the plans, with six against.

In a debate short on controversy, Councillor Robert Reid proposed supporting the proposals, which was seconded by fellow Conservative Councillor Mike Exton.

The school based on Castlegate said that the development was necessary to provide additional primary school places and to offer modern teaching facilities.

The building will be 7.7 metres high and will lie on a site which is bordered by residential properties to the south and west, and by the listed St Wulfram’s Church to the north.

Concerns were raised about how the classroom could overlook neighbouring buildings, which was described by one objector as “dominating and oppressive”.
