Outer Circle Road lane closures set for next two weekends

Watch out for these weekend restrictions.

UPDATE: The works have been rescheduled to start on April 14-15

The southbound lane of Outer Circle Road will be closed between Wragby Road and the Carlton Centre north entrance for the next two weekends.

The closures, part of a £2 million scheme to improve traffic flow in the area, will be in place between 6am Saturday and 8pm Sunday on April 7-8 and April 14-15.

Six months of works began in February, to create longer lanes along Outer Circle Road and addition lanes on the Wragby Road junction. 

It’s expected to be finished in July.

Councillor Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said:”By widening parts of the carriageway, we can improve traffic flow, which will allow people to better predict travel times and spend less time in traffic when traveling in and around the city.

“We apologise for any inconvenience these and other parts of this improvement scheme cause.

“With a project this size, there will inevitably be some disruption. That is why we’re asking road users to consider alternative routes while the works are underway and to remain patient, as any short-term inconvenience will be greatly outweighed by the long-term benefits.”

Other closures that can affect you will be:

  • Outer Circle Road will be closed to southbound traffic between Wragby Road and the Carlton Centre’s north entrance from 6am on Saturday, April 7 until 8pm on Sunday, April 8.
  • Outer Circle Road will be closed to southbound traffic between Wragby Road and the Carlton Centre’s north entrance from 6am on Saturday, April 14 until 8pm on Sunday,  April 15.
  • Sections of Wragby Road, Outer Circle Road, Outer Circle Drive, Carlton Boulevard and Wolsey Way will be closed overnight for six weeks (one section at a time) towards the end of the scheme.

The working hours will be 8pm to 5am nightly.

Proper signposts and information about diversions will be in place for information of passengers.
