Summer of road closures for work on main Grantham junction

Multiple sections of road are set to be rebuilt in Grantham this summer, with new traffic lights also being installed at a key junction.

The first phase of works will begin at the London Road/Wharf Road junction on Sunday, July 29.

The junction is being completely rebuilt and the work is due to be completed by 7am on Friday, August 3.

The junction will remain closed to traffic for the duration of the works and local diversions will be in place for smaller vehicles, which can travel under the railway bridges in town.

Larger vehicles will be diverted via the A1.

Shortly after that project is completed, four weeks of works will start to replace the traffic signals at the junction of London Road and Bridge End Road.

These improvements will be carried out under three-way temporary signals, with a temporary pedestrian crossing on Bridge End Road.

Springfield Road will be closed at its junction with London Road, with diversion signs in place.

The reconstruction of Avenue Road/Stonebridge Road will take place from Monday, August 13 to Sunday, September 2.

Work will take place during the daytime under a road closure, with diversion routes in place.

The carriageway between the B1174 St Peter’s Hill and Sandon Road will be rebuilt.

The footpath between Castlegate and Welham Street will be resurfaced and new kerbing installed.

Executive Member for Highways, Councillor Richard Davies, said: “These sections of road are all in need of repairs, but instead of just patching them up, we’re going to be completely rebuilding them.

“That way they should last a lot longer and require less maintenance.”

He added: “The new lights will be much more energy efficient and easier to maintain, helping to reduce running costs.”
