Avro Anson aircraft visits RAF Coningsby

A special centenary visitor

RAF Coningsby welcomed a special visitor to its station. A restored Avro Anson, repainted to represent the aircraft stationed at Coningsby in the late 1950s.

The Avro Anson, owned by BAE Systems, is one of just three airworthy models left in the world and served an important role as a maritime reconnaissance aircraft during WW2.

The aircraft was welcomed by the Station Commander Group Captain Mike Baulkwill and the BAE Systems General Manager Alison Ballard.

Group Captain Baulkwill said: “We are very grateful to BAE Systems both for helping us meet our current commitment, but also helping us to commemorate a little known but still very valuable part of our history.”

The aircraft can be seen throughout the summer months at airshows across the UK but made the trip to Coningsby to celebrate the centenary of the RAF.
