Plenty half-term ideas

With May half-term coming up next week, families will be looking for activities to enjoy together.

Lincolnshire Reporter has compiled a list of events taking part across the county during half-term from Saturday, May 26 until Sunday, June 3.


Family bike ride

Have a fun family bike ride this half-term. Photo: Lincolnshire County Council

  • Where: Meet in garden area at St Mark’s Shopping Centre
  • When: Thursday, May 31 at 10am
  • Cost: Free, but booking is essential

Cycle from St Mark’s down to Boultham Park for a free drink and cake before riding back again. Fun for all the family

Knight School

  • Where: Lincoln Castle
  • When: Tuesday, May 29 11am to 4.30pm
  • Cost: Castle Day Ticket – Adults £13.50, Child £7.20 (under fives free)

Children can discover the skills needed to be a medieval knight, including a sword drill.

  • Where: Doddington Hall
  • When: Sunday, June 3 from 9.30am to 1.30pm
  • Cost: Free for spectators (registration for cyclists has ended)

All cyclists will start and finish at Doddington Hall and there will be plenty of activities at the venue for the spectators.

A source of local organic produce, but also a great day out for the whole family, including cakes and treats to enjoy.

  • Where: South Elkington Village Hall
  • When: Sunday, June 3 from 10am
  • Cost: Maximum £3.50 for adults depending on distance – walks have cost attached to them or they invite voluntary donations

There are a variety of walks over different distances so there is something for everyone, with some including fun activities

Armed and armoured 12th century knights on foot and on horseback compete in a melee of swords and lance with hand-to-hand combat

Lincolnshire market traders from artists to antique dealers will be on the High Street, Cornhill Quarter & St Marks.

Each child will receive an explorer passport with tasks to complete. Also the chance to make bug hotels and go on bug hunts.

  • When: Monday, May 28 to Thursday, May 31
  • Cost: Mainly free programme, but some paid-for events

Indoor and outdoor programme of events and activities for children and their families including street theatre acts and interactive story-telling.

  • When: Wednesday, May 30 and Friday, June 1. Main session 10am-3pm, but are extra bolt-ons earlier and later
  • Cost: Main activity session is £10

Children aged five to 12 can take part in multi-sport activity days including badminton, football, netball, swimming and more.

  • Cost: Adults and children over two £10.95 (£9.95 online)

Visit the new animal barn, indoor ball cannon area, try archery or brave the Sky Rider.


Elmer Day

  • Where: Lincoln Central Library
  • When: Saturday, May 26 from 10am to 2pm
  • Cost: Free

Join in with crafts, activities and games as Lincoln Central Library celebrates Elmer Day.


From Dangerous to Delicious!

  • When: Saturday, May 26 to Wednesday, May 30 from 11am-4pm
  • Cost: Free event, but normal admission charges apply (standard £7.27 adults and £3.63 for children)

A learning experience including archery, hunting and medieval food, with the chance to meet the Wolfshead Bowmen.
