Come join Lincoln Market’s 80th birthday bash

Let’s have a market party!

Lincoln Central Market will celebrate its 80th birthday this Friday alongside the national Love Your Local Market Campaign 2018.

The new Mayor of Lincoln Keith Weaver was sworn in at a ceremony at The Guildhall on Tuesday, May 15 and will be part of the celebration at the Sincil Street market during the first days of his new tenure.

There will be a Civic Party at the market at 11am on Friday, May 18, which will replicate the original opening ceremony of the venue on the same day back in 1938.

The original golden key to the market will be centre stage in the ceremony, during which the new mayor will draw the 80th birthday raffle, with prizes including £80 and various gifts provided by stall holders.

Fiona Duerden co-owns the Curry Jacks stall in the market and she helped to organise the event.

She told The Lincolnite: “It’s a really big deal for us. There will be giveaways and we would love you to come and lots of the traders are running discounts as well.

“We’ll have some retro music from the time the market first opened so there will be a bit of an atmosphere of a party so come and celebrate our birthday with us.”

The Love Your Local Market 2018 campaign runs from May 17 to 31, with the market open from 9am-4pm Monday to Saturday. For more information click here.
