Jan Sobieraj: Recognition for hundreds of dedicated hospital staff

Celebrating success in the NHS

Our staff awards ceremony was held on Thursday, May 3 and was the biggest and best yet. I really look forward to the event every year. It’s a real highlight as it gives us an opportunity to recognise the genuine commitment and talent of our staff.

Despite our challenges we have many fantastic services run by dedicated, innovative and caring staff and our awards are a great way to recognise their work and encourage others to emulate them.

We received a record number of nominations this year with 792 in total, all showcasing the fantastic quality of care that is given to our patients and to their colleagues across all of our Lincolnshire hospitals.

Nearly 200 members of staff were at the EPIC Centre, Lincolnshire Showground to celebrate the innovation, dedication and hard work that has been taking place.

There were 12 categories including awards for outstanding leader, unsung hero, research and innovation and great patient experience.

The atmosphere was amazing, there were a few tears, a standing ovation and some very surprised winners. It was very humbling to hear some of the heartfelt nominations, some direct from our patients, and it reinforced how privileged and grateful I am to work with such an amazing group of people.

The awards are funded through sponsorship by suppliers and friends of the trust, without their support the evening would not have been possible and so a big thank you to them.

During the night, each highly commended and overall award winner was presented with a trophy or certificate by a member of the Trust Board, a patient representative or sponsor.

I was immensely proud to present my CEO award to the occupational health team for their work on flu. They spearheaded our flufighter campaign and it was so successful that we were the 15th best performing trust in the country out of 245.

I believe that there is a real can-do attitude in the organisation and those staff nominated, shortlisted and awarded this year are great examples of that approach. The winners reflect a real depth of talent within our organisation, and our staff and patients can all feel very proud of their achievements
