Two men arrested over Scunthorpe stabbing

The victim has since been discharged from hospital

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a 30-year-old man on suspicion of affray following a stabbing in Scunthorpe town centre.

As previously reported, Humberside Police were called out to a report that a man had been attacked on the High Street at 12.25pm on Tuesday, June 5.

They have since arrested the two men and are looking to trace a third in connection with their investigation.

The victim, who was initially believed to have suffered serious injures, was discharged from hospital yesterday evening.

Detective Superintendent Jo Roe said: “We understand that the events in the town centre yesterday will have shocked people.

“This is not the kind of thing you expect to see when you’re out doing your shopping.

“However, I want to reassure you that we believe this was an isolated incident, involving people who were known to each other, and that there was no risk to the wider public.

“We have arrested two men in connection with the incident, who are still in custody, and we now want to speak a third man who we believe to have been in the area at the time.

“We also understand that numerous members of the public filmed the incident and just after it happened on their phones.

“If this was you, please give us a ring on 101 quoting log number 196 of June 5, so we can get in touch and view the footage, which will help us establish what happened and who was involved.”
