Two arrested in Scunthorpe murder probe

Two men were arrested in connection with the murder

A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a man was found in a disused building in Scunthorpe on Tuesday.

As previously reported, Humberside Police undertook house-to-house enquiries after the body was found in a building on Cliff Gardens on July 10, which has since been formally identified as Raymond Adam Ward, 51, of no fixed abode.

Police believe it was a targeted attack and two men, aged 37 and 24, have been arrested in connection with the murder and they remain in custody and continue to be questioned.

A post-mortem found that the victim suffered a physical attack and was fatally injured.

The victim’s family have been informed.

Four police cars, including one around the corner, were at the scene and police tape was around a property on Cliff Gardens.

Detective Chief Inspector Christine Calvert of the Major Crime Team said: “A post-mortem was carried out yesterday (July 10) and found that Raymond had suffered a physical attack and had been fatally injured, as a result of these findings we have now launched a murder investigation.

“We have now arrested two men in connection with the murder, a 37 year-old and a 24 year-old, both of no fixed abode. They remain in custody as we look to question them and continue to gather forensic and other evidence.

“We believe the men were known to each other and that this was a targeted attack and I would like to reassure the community that we have an increased police presence in the area to provide reassurance to residents, if anyone has any questions or queries please don’t not hesitate to speak to one of our officers.

“I would appeal for anyone who has information that could help with our investigation to contact us and provide that information by calling 101 quoting log 627 09/07/18.”
