‘We can fight to keep Red Arrows’, says Lincoln MP

She is setting up a petition to save RAF Scampton and the Red Arrows

Member of Parliament for Lincoln Karen Lee is campaigning to save RAF Scampton and keep the Red Arrows in Lincolnshire.

As previously reported, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) made the shock decision on Tuesday to sell RAF Scampton.

Karen Lee MP told The Lincolnite that she was “shocked and saddened” when she heard the news, and has since decided to set up a campaign.

The campaign aims to convince the Ministry of Defence to reconsider the sale of RAF Scampton and calls for a full consultation with those who are affected.

Karen Lee MP will go to the High Street in Lincoln tomorrow (Friday, July 27) at 1pm with clipboard in hand to try and collect as many signatures as possible.

She has also set up an online petition, which went live on Thursday, July 26.

The MP for Lincoln told The Lincolnite: “I think the decision to close RAF Scampton should be reviewed. There needs to be a proper consultation with people who are affected by that decision.

“I was not made aware of that decision in advance, the first I heard about it was in the news like everybody else.

“Even if RAF Scampton was closed, I still think that we can fight to keep the Red Arrows in Lincolnshire. I think that it absolutely key, let us keep our Red Arrows, it can still happen.”

Meanwhile, a separate petition on the change.org website is close to reaching two thousand signatures.

The petition has been signed 1,807 times at the time of writing.

Campaigners have also set up a Facebook page against the move where they say they will be organising more petitions and events.
