The authority revealed proposals to carry out the scheme in an effort to improve the street scene in Cleethorpes back in March with completion expected in July next year.
Plan for Seaview Street under the regeneration scheme.
Now, the final plans for Seaview Street will be included in the first phase of the scheme.
The proposals include:
Creating a public plaza area
Improving the pedestrian crossings on the street
On street parking
Pedestrianising Wardall Street with link to the car park
Creating a loading bay for businesses
Council leader, Ray Oxby, said that the plans were a “huge achievement” after a long period of discussion with local traders on the proposals.
“We are confident that, while it may not please everybody, this is the best consensus to get what everybody wanted locally,” he said.
“Seaview Street is a beautiful asset for Cleethorpes and it will only be better for the traders, the visitors and the tourists coming to see this fantastic local amenity.”
Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, Councillor Ray Oxby.
He added that the money being invested into the town will help it to “feel like a community” and make it more attractive in the process.
The council secured £3.3 million from the Coastal Communities Fund to regenerate the promenade, town centre streets and introducing public art.
A further £500,000 has been secured to create a cycle hub at the town’s train station.
Meanwhile, £1.9 million has been awarded to the project by the Heritage Lottery Fund and £1 million will be spent by the council on a cultural heritage programme.
Councillor Peter Wheatley, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “The plans are part of the overall £7.2m masterplan for Cleethorpes, which involves changes throughout the resort to improve the environment, support businesses to invest and grow, and encourage more visitors to come and spend money in the resort.
“Sea View Street is a fantastic area of Cleethorpes, full of independent traders.
“During an unprecedented period of expansion and reinvestment, the street has gone from strength to strength, creating a unique destination to shop and socialise in the town.
“Sea View Street is one of our key investment priorities for the area, and the potential expansion of the Seaview Street ethos to create a retail quarter will be a focus for both us and the trade association in the coming years.
“The street really is one with a great future ahead of it.”
