Imps sign former Premier League star

Deadline day signing number two for the Imps

Lincoln City completed their second transfer deadline day move with the signing of former Premier League defender Jason Shackell.

After losing captain Luke Waterfall to Shrewsbury earlier this week, Imps’ boss Danny Cowley plugged the gap by signing the 34-year-old centre-back on a one-year deal.

The former Burnley, Derby and Norwich star has made just under 500 career league appearances and has Premier League promotions under his belt, so he brings a wealth of experience to Sincil Bank.

He was most recently with Derby and he spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall.

Shackell has captained four of his previous sides and he will wear the number five shirt for his new club.

He is available for the first home game of the League Two season against Swindon on Saturday (August 11).

Shackell is Cowley’s second deadline day signing after Joan Luque joined the Imps for an undisclosed fee on an initial six-month deal from Bostik League North side Heybridge Swifts.
