Caribbean carnival heads to sunny Scunny

Coming soon to Scunthorpe

‘Reveal the Mas’ Caribbean Arts festival will be making its way to Scunthorpe this month, bringing nine days of dance, colour and carnival.

The festival, taking place from September 15 to 23, will be held in a variety of venues across North Lincolnshire including local schools, community centres and the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre.

The festival will also feature a vibrant parade on Saturday, September 22 through Scunthorpe town centre starting at 2pm, where costumes made by Caribbean designers from the East Midlands will be on display.

Councillor Elaine Marper of North Lincolnshire Council said: “This is going to be truly unique and exciting experience. It’s not every day a Caribbean carnival comes to North Lincolnshire.

“There will be something for everyone to get involved in throughout the festival. It is not to be missed.”

Donna Fox of the East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Arts Network said: “We are delighted to bring this array of magnificent carnival costumes, performances and workshops to Scunthorpe.

“Each year we build on the partnership with 20-21, embedding more local skills and unlocking the creativity through dance, music and costume making.”

The costumes featured in the parade have also featured in carnival parades in Nottingham, Leicester and the famous Notting Hill Carnival.

There will be free workshops at the 20-21 centre running from September 20 -23 for people of all ages and abilities, from families to budding artists.
