Council to complete Lincoln car park a year on

Damp conditions prevented it from being finished before

Almost a year after the City of Lincoln Council opened its new Lincoln Central car park, the top floor is still to be opened.

The council said it is putting finishing touches on the fifth floor and is hoping for the building to be fully open before the Christmas period.

Contractor Willmott Dixon explained damp, wintery conditions prevented them from completing the final floor of the multi-storey car park last year.

Adrian Coleman, Construction Manager for Wilmott Dixon said: “We were very pleased to deliver Lincoln Central Car Park ahead of schedule last year, ready for the peak Christmas shopping period in the city.

“It was apparent to all those working on the project that due to damp, wintery conditions it would be unlikely that we would be able to finish and open the top floor of the car park to the public last winter.”

“Since then we have been met with setbacks that have meant that our supply chain partner originally responsible for painting the top floor have now been replaced, and work on the painting and finishing of the top floor has had to be restarted.

“We are happy to announce the final preparation is being done this week in preparation for this new paint to be put down, and that the entire 1000 space car park will be available within two months.”

The council will be running free parking offers again for Christmas 2018 with details being released in the coming weeks.
