Man dies after alleged Grimsby assault

A 36-year-old man remains in custody

A 46-year-old man has died after an alleged assault in Grimsby town centre last month.

Christopher Shipway did not recover from the serious injuries he suffered during the incident, which happened on August 25.

Mark Bennison, 36, of no fixed abode, has been charged with GBH and remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector at Humberside Police Stewart Miller released a statement, which said: “Forty-six-year old Christopher Shipway who was seriously injured during an alleged assault in Grimsby town centre on August 25 2018 has sadly passed away.

“Mark Bennison, 36, of no fixed abode has been charged with GBH and has already appeared in court.

“He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Grimsby Crown Court on 24 September.

“We’re now working with the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether the current charge will be changed.”
